Tucker Max promotes ‘Assholes Finish First’ in Philadelphia

Tucker Max lived up to the title of his newest book, Assholes Finish First, at his Philadelphia book signing Thursday.

When asked where he was staying during a question-and-answer session, Max replied, “You think I’m going to tell you, a fat 40-year-old man with a mohawk, where I’m staying?”

Over 100 people showed up for the event at the Borders on South Broad Street.

Max’s first book, I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell, detailed his drunken escapades and sexual encounters with women and made The New York Times Best Seller list three years in a row. It is estimated to have sold over 70,000 copies in 2006, the year it was published.

Max said Assholes Finish First is more of the same, but “it’s better written, funnier and in some ways more reflective.”

The new book is divided into halves. According to Max, the first half is very similar to I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell in terms of the types of stories, but the second half, which he calls “Post-Fame Sex Stories,” uses raunchy sex stories to talk about how fame changed his life.

Max said his favorite story in the new book is “The Midget Threesome Story.”

Following the presentation, Max took pictures with fans and made sure to sign a book for every person who asked, even beyond the allotted time.

Max said that, because of the disdain he shows for other people’s feelings and the sexual encounters he describes in his books, some people have strongly negative views of him, calling him sexist and misogynistic.

His response to them was, “don’t read the books if you don’t like them.”

Some other critics have suggested that he made up some of the stories for entertainment value, Max said.

But, he said, “in reality, my life might be even crazier than it seems in the book.”
