In high school, I used to participate in extemporaneous speaking. We were given a question on current events; something like, “How will Brexit impact the UK economy?” might be asked today.

For the last month, whenever someone has asked me, “What are you up to?” I’ve always given them the same reply: “I’m studying for the MCAT.” God only knows how many conversations I’ve defaulted to that lazy small talk. Sitting for the MCAT is a notable event that many students study several months for.

As a junior transfer student, I have the unique perspective of having gone to Vassar College, a small liberal arts school which is in many ways the polar opposite of Penn. The joke I like to tell about Vassar is that “It’s a small liberal arts school, which is very small, very liberal and very artsy.” The entire Vassar student body is the size of one year at Penn.

I am a huge fan of League of Legends. For anyone not familiar, this game, abbreviated LoL, is a Multiplayer Online Battle Arena (MOBA) game where players work together in teams of five to destroy a series of enemy structures while preventing their five opponents from doing the same to their own base.

I’ve only recently recognized how dependent I am on slang. Words like “dope,” “fire,” or “swag” have replaced “awesome” in my vocabulary.

Recently I binge-watched the fifth season of Suits, a legal drama airing on USA Network. Suits has some realistic parts and some very unrealistic parts. The simplest aspects of the show are true.
