Summer Recap | 'Transformers 2' filmed on campus in June

Filming of the movie Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen took place on campus June 10-15, drawing large crowds of passersby struck by the Hollywood scene and hoping to catch a glimpse of the film's director Michael Bay and star actor Shia LeBeouf. The Transformers 2 production crew was "overwhelmed" by their reception at Penn, University spokeswoman Phyllis Holtzman said.

'Transformers 2' wraps on-campus filming

Filming of the movie Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen took place on campus last weekend, drawing large crowds of passersby struck by the Hollywood scene and hoping to catch a glimpse of the film's director Michael Bay and star actor Shia LeBeouf. "This is the first big studio motion picture that's been filmed on campus proper," said University spokeswoman Phyllis Holtzman.

Steven Pinker has a way with words. Named one of Time's 100 most influential people in 2004, the best-selling Harvard psychology professor spoke in Irvine Auditorium yesterday on his new book, The Stuff of Thought: Language as a Window into Human Nature. His presentation was part of the 2008 Levin Family Dean's Forum, an annual celebration of the arts and sciences featuring leading intellectual figures.

Lecturer compares eastern civilizations

East Asian and Middle Eastern history may be more similar than you think. Yesterday afternoon at Logan Hall, Cemil Aydin, Princeton University post-doctoral fellow and assistant professor of History at the University of North Carolina-Charlotte, gave a lecture entitled, "East Asia and the Middle East: What Can We Learn from Comparative Approaches to Global History?" His talk was based on his most recent book, "The Politics of Anti-Westernism in Asia: Visions of World Order in Pan-Islamic and Pan-Asian Thought," in which he challenges prevalent notions of anti-Westernism as a reaction to Western values or response to Western imperialism.
