DJ Girl Talk is the third and final artist to perform at Spring Fling on April 12, behind his openers, Tyga and Janelle Monae.
A number of students on campus have recently spoken out against the choice of Tyga as a performer in this year’s Fling concert. The individuals take issue with many of Tyga’s lyrics, which they claim feature misogynistic and racist themes.
All interior Quad doors will be “inaccessible for entrance” or have AlliedBarton Security guards posted outside on the Friday and Saturday of Spring Fling.
Rapper Tyga will be coming to Penn on April 12 as the first Spring Fling opening artist. Tyga, born Michael Ray Nguyen-Stevenson, came to fame with songs like “Faded,” “Roger That” and the megahit “Rack City”.
Janelle Monae is the first of three artists to be announced for Penn’s annual Spring Fling concert. Monae marks a turn from the electronic genre of last year’s Fling. She is known for her debut album The ArchAndroid, which earned her a nomination for best contemporary R&B album at the Grammys in 2011.
In preparation for Spring Fling next month, the Social Planning and Events Committee’s Spring Fling committee has sponsored a new series of events, called Fling Fridays, for the past three weeks.
As Spring Fling begins to creep steadily upon us, students are beginning to play the guessing game as to whom this year’s performers will be.
The Social Planning and Events Committee decided on “40 Years of Fling” as its theme for this year’s Spring Fling, which will take place April 12-13.
