Penn graduate Kana Daniel won her opening match as the first Quaker to qualify for the NCAA Championships since 2011.

Daniel finished her career as a Quaker on collegiate tennis’ biggest stage. Though her tenure officially ended on Thursday, it was what she did on Wednesday that will go down as one of the defining moments in her singles’ career: qualifying for the NCAA Women’s Singles Championship and winning a round.


After graduating from Penn and coaching the wrestling team from 1986-2005, Penn Athletic Director Grace Calhoun announced Wednesday that Reina would be returning to his position as head coach. The news comes two weeks after Calhoun announced that former head coach Alex Tirapelle had resigned.
