Welcome to Mahoney era of Penn Athletics.After the stunning resignation of M. Grace Calhoun, Provost Vincent Price announced on Sunday that Mike Mahoney, the Director of Penn’s Athletic communications, would be the next Director of Recreation and Intercollegiate Athletics, effective July 1.

In a stunning turn of events less than a week after her formal introduction as Penn’s next Athletic Director, M. Grace Calhoun submitted her letter of resignation to President Amy Gutmann and Provost Vincent Price late Sunday evening.

On Saturday afternoon, backed by a boisterous crowd, the Quakers took down No. 56 Princeton, 4-1, at the Levy Tennis Pavillion, after being forced inside due to the weather.

Both the men’s and women’s teams will take part in this year’s Raleigh Relays this weekend, a meet that will start Friday morning and conclude Saturday night.

This Saturday, the Quakers will be hosting Princeton to kick off the start of Penn's Ivy League stretch.

Entering Thursday's road matchup with Villanova, the Red and Blue hoped to build off their weekend momentum against another local rival. The Quakers used a six-run fifth inning and strong pitching to knock out Villanova, 12-1.

Penn women’s tennis won’t have to dig deep to find the motivation to beat its next opponent; the rivalry is already bred in its bones and the only thing on its mind is vengeance after last year.

This Saturday the Quakers will compete in their third Ivy contest. With two losses to two of the top teams in the league behind them, the men’s lacrosse team is in the hunt for its first conference win.

According to the Houston Chronicle, Pera, Penn's recruiting coordinator for the last two seasons, will leave Penn for Rice, where he will be a member of new coach Mike Rhoades' staff.

Though Penn battled hard, the Quakers ultimately couldn’t batten down the hatches and fell to St. John’s, 5-2.

While Penn hired Calhoun, Loyola now has to start from scratch, searching for a new athletic director itself after Calhoun led the athletic department through three years of change and the move into a new conference.
