Curry In A Hurry

(07/05/11 8:37pm)

Picking up on the "too damn lazy to go out and pick up your own food" trend, New Delhi has launched its very own lunchtime delivery service with CurryBox. For $8 ($9 for meat), you can get two entrees, two sides, a samosa, and rice delivered anywhere in University City between noon and 3pm on Tuesday through Friday. Just place your online order before 10am for same day delivery, or anytime after 3pm for next day delivery. They're even promising an expansion to Center City! Tandoor, you best WATCH YO' SELF. Are you gonna let New Delhi corner the market? We're excited to see if the so-far naan-confrontational competition between these two gets spicy.

And The Nominees Are...

(06/30/11 6:34pm)

Considering food trucks are such a big deal in Philly, you've probably wondered why there's never been a head-to-head battle royale to determine who really rules the streets (and our stomachs) around here. But our insatiable appetites for both yummy street food and competition are about to be satisfied in one fell swoop. The Vendy Awards, a battle of the best street food vendors that started in NYC six years ago, is coming to Philly next weekend.

Sabrina's To Cast A Spell Over University City

(06/28/11 3:45pm)

Can it be? Our favorite BYO brunch spot right in our backyard? An excuse to be not just hungover in your Friday afternoon recitation, but flat out drunk? Yes! Philly.com reports that a third Sabrina's Cafe, the most magically mouthwatering breakfast and booze bistros in all the land, will set up shop at 34th and Powelton sometime this fall! It's apparently taking over the first floor of Ross Commons, Drexel's student center. We're not really sure how this makes sense but we're on the edge of our seats waiting to see whether it actually pans out. In the meantime, we're contracting a Don Memo II for Houston Hall, slated for a Fling 2012 opening.

List-o-mania

(06/21/11 6:33pm)

List makers just can't get enough of us. Computerworld.com, our most visited site after The Bachelorette full episode guide, published its annual ranking of the 100 Best Places To Work In IT. Penn landed at number 6, down one spot from last year. This comes as a major blow to... absolutely nobody.

(06/20/11 12:33am)

Penn Alum Seeks The Crown -- Tune in to NBC tonight at 9pm EST to root for Amber-Joi Watkins, C '07 and Miss Pennsylvania 2011 winner, as she competes for ultimate bragging rights in the Miss USA 2011 Pageant!

Prefrosh Make Us Proud

(06/17/11 6:28pm)

How about this for a feel-good Friday? NBC Philadelphia picked up a story about incoming freshman Althea Escorce, who moved to Philly from Guyana three years ago to become the valedictorian and senior class president of Germantown High School. Pretty standard attributes of a Penn student, right? Maybe, except for the part where she was offered over a million dollars in scholarships from more than 40 universities. What? No wait, what? We don't even get it (SO MANY ESSAYS. SO MANY SCHOOLS) but we're glad Penn snagged her. When our cholesterol levels skyrocket after weekly runs to Shake Shack, we want this aspiring cardiologist to be the one prescribing us Lipitor.

Welcome, Horribly-Placed Transplant House

(06/15/11 12:59pm)

Remember how everyone was all excited when that mysterious structure cropped up in the empty lot near 40th and Spruce last year? And then we discovered it's actually a temporary residence for families of HUP organ transplant patients and were like, "Uhh..." Tuesday night is the grand opening ceremony for the greatest architectural anomaly on campus since the Radian (even though it doesn't open until July 1...ok).

Tyson Bee's Gets KO'd

(06/13/11 6:08pm)

Following last month's report that Korean taco vendor Tyson Bee's would be taking an indefinite hiatus, the incongruously-named food truck has finally called it quits. According to its Facebook page, the "company is going through a transition" and the truck has ceased operations, but they are "working on future plans" and hope to serve again soon. We hope they do, too! But until then, let us have a moment of silence and give thanks for the delicious Korean barbeque-y goodness they provided and pray that another Korean taco truck will immediately swoop in and fill the void.

Penn Baseball Hits Another Home Run

(06/08/11 8:24pm)

Rising College senior Vince Voiro was drafted by the San Diego Padres today in the 47th round of the MLB Draft, making him the second Penn baseball player to make the big leagues in two days after Paul Cusick was drafted by the Phillies yesterday. Congrats, guys! You have single- (or double-) handedly revived the Ivy League's legitimacy as a sports conference.

The Schuylkill Is The New Rave

(06/08/11 5:21pm)

Grab your friends, some homemade popcorn doused in a stick of melted butter and a couple 40s and head down to the river near the Walnut Street Bridge this Thursday for the kick-off of the Schuylkill Banks' Outdoor Movie Nights series. Every other Thursday, an old (super)hero blockbuster  will be projected onto a big screen for your (free!) viewing pleasure under the stars. Movies begin around 8:20 P.M., but arrive earlier for (free!) snacks and a chance to enter a (free!) raffle.

Pronto No Mo'?!

(06/07/11 2:20pm)

For the unlucky patrons of Wegmans supermarkets, at least. The grocery store chain is pulling the plug on the wine kiosks in its 10 locations across Pennsylvania. Apparently customers haven't been too happy with them and they don't work, or something, so the automated vendors are getting the axe. What does this mean for our own beloved spirit supplier in FroGro? Will they follow suit and get rid of the wonky vendor, forcing lazy winos to make the trek to 41st and Market to get their fix? The Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board says it will focus on improving the remaining 22 kiosks still in operation (that means ours!). Happy FroGro-goers were spotted using the machine Monday afternoon, and considering customer satisfaction and efficiency are on the bottom of FroGro's priority list, we remain hopeful that the problematic Pronto is here to stay.
