More off-campus areas to get cable TV access
Students living in several off-campus locations within a block of the University will have access to cable television within the next few weeks, after construction crews finish laying in additional wiring. Rodney Brooks, an underground inspector for Wade Cablevision, said yesterday that his company is installing cables along 40th Street between Spruce and Walnut streets. He said that most of the buildings that will be able to use the new cables will be commercial, but added that several private residences on the 4000 block of Walnut Street, the 200 block of S. 40th Street and the 4000 block of Spruce Street will also have access. Although the service is already available to some residences in these locations, the new cables will allow access to every resident of the Walnut Street and S. 40th Street locations. Only some of the Spruce Street locations will have access. Brooks said that construction, which began in the middle of last week, will be completed by early next week. Wade Cablevision Assistant General Manager Janine Stuart-Harmon said that cable television will not be available for three to four weeks. "We have to do the normal testing procedures first, then we turn it over to the sales department," Stuart-Harmon said. Several students who live on the 4000 block of Walnut Street had mixed reactions to the arrival of cable television. "I don't think we'll get it when it comes because we had a chance to get it when we lived on the 4000 block at Baltimore, and we didn't get it then," said College senior Veronica Curtis. "It depends on the price, but none of us really watch TV, so we never miss not having cable." But College senior Brett Danko was more enthusiastic. "It's about time we get it," Danko said. "If it's available I think we'll probably pay for it because it's not that expensive."
