Penn field hockey took a trip to the Empire State this past weekend to take on Ivy rival Cornell and No. 1 Syracuse in what was one of the toughest weekends on their schedule. They came back with some good news and some not so good news.

Over July 1 to July 10, three recently-graduated members of Penn’s track and field team competed in the United States Olympic Trials in Eugene, Ore. for a spot on the team bound for Rio in August. All of them fell just short of their goal of ultimately making the Olympic team, but none failed to impress at one of the most prestigious domestic competitions in the nation.

You should never dig a hole that you can’t crawl out of. Unfortunately for Penn women’s lacrosse, the hole that they dug for themselves in the first part of Wednesday’s game was just a bit too deep.

Some might attribute it to the luck of the Irish, but Penn men’s lacrosse put on an offensive clinic Saturday against Princeton at the Tigers’ Class of ’52 Stadium, blowing its previous season-high of 12 goals out of the water to cruise to a 20-10 victory in their first Ivy contest of the season and first win at Princeton since 1988.

While most Penn students enjoyed a restful week off from classes to return to their families, Penn men’s lacrosse got down to business. The Red and Blue (4-2) played three games in seven days, winning two, to close out the first part of its schedule before Ivy play begins.

The Penn men’s lacrosse team is off and running in its season, grabbing a 12-10 home win against Michigan this past Saturday at Franklin Field to open play. This week, however, the Quakers will face their first road test of the season, traveling down to Charlottesville, Va., to take on a traditional powerhouse program in No. 11 Virginia.
