ShutterButton: Hey (The Olden) Days

(04/24/13 6:38pm)

Happy Hey Day! (Cue Juniors freaking out and Seniors weeping silently). But this 1932 photo of the then-dubbed Cane March looks more like a funeral procession than a celebration. Maybe it's because they knew Penn didn't come up with the idea for Hey Day to begin with! That's right, our precious celebration was originally modeled after a similar idea at Syracuse University. But it also has evolved from a formal ceremony honoring the advancement of each class to a parade of raucous debauchery. Hats off for another reason to get drunk and procrastinate!

Update: Winner Of Free Coffee At Williams

(04/09/13 2:36pm)

Congrats to Michael Scognamiglio for his winning creation, the "Chinchilla": vanilla and cinnamon flavored coffee topped with cocoa. The grand prize: free coffee at Williams Cafe for the rest of the semester.  Although thinking of chinchillas while drinking coffee isn't the most appetizing proposition, we congratulate Michael's creativity.  Enjoy your free month-long coffee binge!

Flyer Of The Week: Pennsando

(03/29/13 1:41pm)

This week's most creative flyer design goes to Penn's Latino Coalition and La Casa Latina for this colorful ad for Pennsando, a festival celebrating Penn's Latino culture and community. Props to the fiesta-inspired letters and bright mosaic background. They will be hosting a variety of events, featuring a keynote speaker, dance, and even karaoke night! Pero liiiike it's not too late to catch the last few events this weekend. Congrats!

Limited Quad Access During Fling (Ugh)

(03/25/13 7:23pm)

More changes are coming to Fling this year! As detailed in an email sent to Quad residents and this DP article, from 10:00 AM to 6:30 PM on the Friday and Saturday of Fling, all Quad doors will be locked, and security will only be allowing Quad residents and guest pass holders into the buildings. This will be done in an effort to let drunk freshmen puke in peace "respect the living space of Quad residents and ensure usable bathrooms."

(03/19/13 2:43pm)

Psst! We know you can't wait to sign up for those 4 labs, 8.5 credits, and 2 graduate level classes next semester. So hurry over to Penn InTouch, because Advance Registration opens today! (Even though it makes no difference whether you do it now, or 5 minutes before it closes.)

Shutterbutton: Who's That Pokémon?

(02/28/13 3:41pm)

Spotted outside Van Pelt: A Pokémon battle of epic(ish) proportions. Not gonna lie, we were slightly disappointed at the lack of people in Pokémon costumes doing this to each other (read: we wanted to see a Charmeleon). But we enjoyed it anyway. In case you've forgotten the good ol' days, or you don't want everyone to know you had a sad, sad childhood, there's still hope.

Free Printing And...?

(02/21/13 8:52pm)

Seems like things have been getting frisky in the M&T office, according to this email, recently sent by an administrator for the Jerome Fisher Program in Management and Technology. Although the nature of the "inappropriate behavior" wasn't specified, we think it may have had something to do with a senior's recent answer to a Street survey. Weirdest place one guy ever hooked up? "M&T office. Free printing AND a blowjob." The stress must be getting to you. Next time, though, we suggest you take it somewhere more private (Van Pelt stacks anyone?)
