I don’t think there is a student who isn’t thankful for the break this past weekend. Indulging in a four-day food-fest and getting plenty of R&R; was what everyone needed, and we happily shelved our textbooks and let the good times roll with friends and family.

It’s a truth universally acknowledged that all Penn students start listening when they hear the words “free dinner.” So when I learned there was a Women’s Center event complete with pizza for undergrad and grad students, I was in.

It was a Friday night, 12:30 a.m. and I was feverish, achy and nauseous with chills and a sore throat (the vomiting wouldn’t begin for a couple of hours). My first thought was that I had swine flu. And for four days, until the test came back negative, I was a suspected H1N1 case.

The deluge of Penn mail begins almost immediately after acceptance. Between housing notices and deposit receipts, Penn doesn’t let you forget that you’ll be on Locust Walk in two months … one month … one week. It’s exciting, but only heightens trepidation.
