Hanadi Abdulkadir | How to finish off the spring semester strong

(05/01/24 3:22am)

With the last day of classes tomorrow, it’s that point in the semester where burnout plagues the average university student. However, this is a problem amplified by the way that the spring semester takes its toll on us. Thanks to Penn’s breaks being much shorter than other universities in the surrounding area, we lament our early return back to campus rather than returning from winter break feeling well rested and refreshed.

Hanadi Abdulkadir | How poor dining hall food shapes our mental and academic capabilities

(03/12/24 10:07pm)

At this point, many Penn students have lived the terrible dining stories at a number of halls across campus. While it’s important to discuss the health and sanitary risks associated with some of these concerns, it’s also necessary to break down how this problem factors into students’ academic and mental well-being.

Hanadi Abdulkadir | Why social media and Palestinian activism goes hand in hand

(11/08/23 2:09am)

Social media was and will continue to be a space for Palestinians to express their right to exist. This claim predates the more recent tragic events that unfolded throughout the past month, where online platforms such as TikTok provided Palestinians the ability to give an unfiltered view into their suffering. With a land that lacks any legitimate army, democratically elected leaders, or control over fundamental resources such as water and electricity, the internet remains one tool to remind the global population that the Palestinian people will not disappear.  A bombing campaign that indiscriminately claims the lives of thousands of civilians has resulted in a mounting death toll that continues to rise without an immediate end in sight.

Hanadi Abdulkadir | Racist posts on Sidechat are not invisible

(10/05/23 3:09am)

Many students at Penn and throughout the nation remember the Supreme Court’s ruling striking down affirmative action in the college admissions process this summer. While many individuals publicly expressed the nuances behind the decision and what this could mean for the future of higher education, others took a more anonymous approach.

Hanadi Abdulkadir | Breaking my foot revealed to me how Penn Disability Services fails disabled students

(08/26/23 2:57am)

In my very first semester at Penn, I sprained and fractured my ankle during a Pilates class at Pottruck Health and Fitness Center. Looking back at it now, I can laugh about how silly it was. When I tried to get in shape for the first time in a while, I made the next few months an extraordinarily difficult time to do just that.

Hanadi Abdulkadir | A letter to Class of 2027 Philly Natives

(07/11/23 1:36pm)

To anyone that is anxious to begin their first year at Penn, let me be one of the many voices that congratulate and welcome you to our school. Penn can be a daunting place, even for someone who has lived in Philadelphia their entire life. In fact, as incoming students from Philadelphia, I think it’s important to understand how different your new school will be from anything you’ve known before. You may think living within miles of Penn will prepare you for everything you’ll face during your first year, much like I did, but in reality, our school exists within an enclosed bubble distinct from the rest of the city that we know.
