Former Notre Dame guard Sir Mohammed announces transfer to Penn

Sir Mohammed AP Mohammed

After two seasons at Notre Dame, Sir Mohammed has announced his transfer to Penn to play on the men’s basketball team.

The son of former NBA player Nazr Mohammed, the 6-foot-6 guard appeared in all games for the Fighting Irish last season, averaging 5.7 points. He is the second former top-100 recruit to commit to Penn under coach Fran McCaffery.

“I went to Notre Dame the past two years, so it was important to me to find a place where I can strive for all my dreams on the basketball court while also getting a great education,” Mohammed wrote in a statement to The Daily Pennsylvanian.

He announced his decision on Instagram, posting a photo of himself in a Penn jersey with the words “#quakers #committed” in the caption.

Notre Dame and Penn have now traded players this offseason, with senior guard/forward Ethan Roberts announcing his transfer to the Fighting Irish in April.

Mohammed averaged 16.3 minutes across all 31 games he appeared in this season and scored an average of 5.7 points per game. The Charlotte, N.C., native scored more than 10 points on eight occasions and saw his field goal percentage increase to 42% his sophomore season, up from 38.2% in his freshman year. Following his high school years at Myers Park High School, Mohammed was ranked 43rd and 57th in his recruiting class by 247 Sports and ESPN, respectively.

After Notre Dame’s 16th-place finish in the ACC this season, Mohammed announced his decision to transfer via social media. In the 2025-26 season, the Fighting Irish went 13-18 overall and 4-14 in conference matchup — their third losing season under coach Micah Shrewsberry.

In Mohammed’s transfer announcement in March, he called entering the portal a “tough decision to make,” but said that he was “excited for what the future holds.”

Mohammed joins a team led by standout junior guard TJ Power, who will play his final season at Penn. In McCaffery’s second season, the Quakers seek to repeat their Ivy Madness title from this year and make another NCAA tournament appearance.

“The way those guys played this year was a big part of my decision,” Mohammed wrote to the DP. “All the guys are really good players, and I am excited to join a group of winners.”
