On Monday, senior wide receiver Jared Richardson was awarded FCS National Offensive Player of the Week and Ivy League Offensive Player of the Week by Stats Perform and the Ivy League, respectively.
In the Quakers' 28-9 victory against Marist, Richardson had 15 catches for a total of 190 yards and two touchdowns, helping the Quakers continue the season strong with a 3-1 overall record.
“Honestly, all the credit goes to coach [Ray Priore], [senior quarterback] Liam O’Brien … it honestly takes all 11 of us. I’m just blessed to be in [this] position,” Richardson said postgame of his performance.
Seven of Richardson's catches were first downs with a long of 43 yards. He also had a go-ahead, a 21-yard touchdown, and an 11-yard touchdown. Richardson was one yard away from reaching his career high for receiving yards, which was 191 at Yale in 2023. This was his third 100+ yard game of the year and the seventh of his career.
Impressively, Richardson has just become the fifth player in Penn history to reach 20 career touchdowns and is only 58 yards short of becoming the sixth player in program history to have accumulated 2,000 career receiving yards. His performance also marks the 10th time a pass-catcher at Penn has achieved at least 190 yards in a single game and the fifth time a wideout has earned at least 15 catches.
In each of the Quakers' first two matchups of the season, Richardson notched over 100 receiving yards.
Richardson now joins a star-studded lineup of Penn FCS National Player of the Week awardees alongside former Penn running back Malachi Hosley and O’Brien.
Penn’s start to the football season — specifically, its four consecutive Ivy League weekly honors in just these first four weeks — are drawing comparisons to Penn’s 1993 season in which the Quakers went 10-0 and clinched the Ivy League title. These similarities are bringing forth anticipation for the roll-out of their upcoming games.
