A man was killed after being struck by an elevated subway train in West Philadelphia Tuesday morning. The man appears to have jumped intentionally, according to SEPTA officials.
According to 6ABC Action News, the man was declared dead some time before 12:30 after being trapped underneath the Market Frankford Line train at 56th and Market streets. Surveillance tapes seem to show that the man, whose identity is not yet known, jumped onto the track in front of the oncoming eastbound train.
The Market Frankford Line was closed between the 52nd and 69th Street stops while firefighters worked to remove the victim.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the matter.
