Senior Geoffrey Bostany picked up his first career victory in a dual meet against Bloomsburg in 2011. Then a sophomore, Bostany will now face the Huskies for a final time when Penn and Bloomsburg meet at the Grapple at the Garden on Nov. 30, looking to get back on track after missing most of last season with an injury.

Penn wrestling has traditionally gone up against against a difficult schedule, and this year is no different. The 2013-14 Quakers will do battle all over the country against some of the nation’s best teams. Here are a few of the top dates on the Red and Blue’s schedule:

Sunday, Nov. 24 — Keystone Classic at the Palestra

A typical draw of top talent, the Keystone Classic has become a Penn wrestling tradition. Now in its 19th year, the Classic features numerous top teams and individual wrestlers. In 2012, the Palestra welcomed 14 different top-20 individual wrestlers and four different EIWA foes. This year’s tournament brackets have not been released yet, but perennial foe Harvard has been confirmed to participate. The Crimson boast powerful 165-pound sophomore Devon Gobbo.

Sunday, Dec. 1 — vs. Bloomsburg and Boston (Grapple at the Garden)

Just one week after the Classic, the Quakers will take their show on the road to the World’s Most Famous Arena. Drawing in 16 teams from around the country (including six EIWA opponents), the Red and Blue will face a stiff early-season test. A traditional EIWA foe, Penn has not faced Bloomsburg in a dual meet since 2011, when the Quakers emerged with a 26-12 win. Though the day was most remembered for Zack Kemmerer earning his 100th career victory, then-sophomore Geoffrey Bostany earned his first triumph of the season as well.

Wednesday, Jan. 1, Thursday, Jan. 2 — Southern Scuffle at Chattanooga, Tenn.

One of the biggest wrestling draws in the country, Penn will make a long trip south to join a stacked 33-team field at Chattanooga. The field boasts four of the top five team finishers at the 2013 NCAA championships, including defending national champion Penn State. One of the Quakers who has already circled the Southern Scuffle on his schedule is junior Jeff Canfora, who is adjusting to the 141-pound weightclass after earning first-team All-Ivy honors at 133 pounds last year.

Saturday, Feb 1 — vs. Cornell at the Palestra

A traditional wrestling power, the Big Red have proven to be more than a match for Penn on the mat in recent years and dealt the Red and Blue a humbling 24-9 loss. Adding an interesting storyline to this year’s matchup is the presence of freshman Caleb Richardson on the Quakers’ roster. A former Cornell recruit, Richardson spent a year training with Cornell at the Finger Lakes Wrestling Club before decommitting and signing with the Red and Blue.
