On Wednesday, students will have the opportunity to help find a cure for breast cancer while receiving manicures.
For the third year in a row, students will hold Manicure for the Cure, an event that provides manicures and raises money for beast-cancer research. From 10 a.m. until 4:50 p.m., 14 manicure specialists will be on site in the Hall of Flags in Houston Hall to give 20-minute manicures.
The event, run by the Orthodox Community at Penn, is spearheaded by College junior Laura Chiel and College sophomore Raquel Finkelstein.
“We hope to build on the achievements of the event from previous years, which has been tremendously successful in bringing together Penn’s campus to support breast-cancer research, at the same time as fostering a sense of community and fun among participants,” Chiel said.
Manicure for the Cure is also co-sponsored by the Trustees’s Council for Penn Women, Tzedek Philly, Alpha Kappa Delta Phi, OPI, Philosophy, Penn Hillel and the Jewish Learning Initiative on Campus.
The event was originally formed in memory of Penn 2008 alumnus Isaac Dayan’s mother, who died of the illness, Chiel said. All proceeds will be donated directly to breastcancer.org to further research the disease.
In addition to the manicures, health specialists, including Cristina Polinsky, Robin Ciocca and Marisa Weiss, president and founder of breastcancer.org., will be on site to promote further breast-cancer awareness and prevention tips.
Each manicure costs $15. Participants will also receive a gift bag featuring OPI nail polish and breast-cancer awareness information.
