A man who was dressed as a woman was arrested Friday afternoon after he attacked Huntsman Hall security personnel, according to Division of Public Safety spokeswoman Stef Cella.
Cella wrote in an e-mail that the man, who was “mentally unstable,” physically attacked an AlliedBarton Security Supervisor when he tried to ascertain the man’s purpose for being in the building.
“In the midst of the attack against security personnel he hit [his] head on the ground,” Cella wrote.
Two security guards restrained the man until Penn Police arrived and arrested him.
He was transported to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania for “minor injuries,” Cella wrote. An AlliedBarton security officer was also transported to HUP for minor injuries.
According to Cella, the investigation of the incident is ongoing, and the suspect’s name and other information will not be available until his arraignment hearing.
Wharton freshman Jessica Liu was at the Walnut Street entrance of the building distributing flyers when she heard loud screaming coming from inside the building.
“As I walked in, I overheard the guards talking about how a woman without a Penn ID had rushed into the building,” she said.
Liu added that the suspect did not appear to be a student.
According to College junior Patrick Hillstrom, who witnessed the aftermath of the attack, the suspect was bleeding from either the head or back, and was lying in a pool of blood that measured “half a foot across.”
