Lynn Hollen Lees, a history professor, has been appointed the Vice Provost for Faculty, according to Provost Vincent Price.
She filled the position vacated by Price when he was named the Provost.
Lees is a scholar of European urban history and co-director of the Lauder Institute of Management and International Studies.
She has taught at Penn for 35 years and served two terms as chair of the History Department.
She is also the chair of the Graduate Group in International Studies and a member of the Faculty Senate Executive Committee.
Price said Lees is “perfect for the role.”
He described her as “deeply committed and knowledgeable.”
Furthermore, he added, “she has the enormous respect of her peers.”
Lees has published eight books, including histories of English poor laws and Irish migrants in Victorian London, according to the Penn Almanac.
