Penn received an A- in the College Sustainability Report Card ratings, which were released yesterday.
The ratings measure the environmental sustainability efforts of 332 colleges and universities in the United States and Canada.
An A- was the highest overall grade awarded to any school. Penn shared this grade with 25 other colleges and universities, all earning the distinction of Overall College Sustainability Leaders.
Overall, the results of this year’s report card were considerably higher than last year’s.
Of the colleges and Universities evaluated, 56 percent earned higher grades than in previous years.
Only 13 percent of the schools included in the report received slight declines since last year.
Penn tied Brown, Harvard and Yale universities for the highest overall grade in the Ivy League.
Dartmouth College received a grade of B+, Columbia and Cornell universities received grades of B and Princeton University received the lowest grade in the Ivies with a B-.
The University received A’s in the Climate Change & Energy, Food & Recycling, Student Involvement, Transportation, Investment Priorities and Shareholder Engagement subcategories.
It received lower grades in several other areas: Bs in Administration and Green Building and a C in endowment transparency.
This is the fourth year the College Sustainability Report Card has been released.
