After a year-long injury in 2008, Dartmouth men’s soccer player Daniel Keat proved he is ready to be back on the pitch.

Last weekend, the Big Green played two games against San Diego and Loyola-Marymount — two teams that are ranked in the top 20 nationally.

Keat netted two goals and assisted the game-winning strike in the 77th minute against San Diego.

With a knack for scoring as the clock runs down, the junior midfielder scored twice in the 76th and 79th minute against Marymount to tie the game. Despite the New Zealand native’s stellar performance, the Big Green lost in overtime.

“It’s just good to be back playing again,” Keat told The Dartmouth. “I’ve waited a long time to be back on the field, and I’ve worked very hard to be back playing.”

A running start. The Yale field hockey team is off to its best start in 11 years. The Bulldogs are currently 4-2 — their best record since their 5-1 start in 1998.

On Saturday, Yale defeated Ivy League rival Harvard on its Alumnae Day. Led by senior Ashley McCauley’s hat trick, the Bulldogs took a 4-0 lead in the first half.

“This senior class has decided that they’re going out with a bang,” coach Pam Stuper told YaleBulldogs.com. “In the first half we just came out and went after it.”

Although Harvard closed the gap, scoring three unanswered goals in the second half — the last of which came in the final minute — Yale emerged victorious.

The Bulldogs also topped Holy Cross by a score of 3-1 the following day. Interestingly, every Yale goal was scored off of a penalty corner.

“Against Harvard we didn’t score as much as we could have, which was a tribute to Harvard’s goalie,” Stuper said. “It was important for us to get some goals off corners today.”

Longinotti helps defeat Lehigh. In the championship match of the Columbia Classic volleyball tournament last weekend, the Lions rallied from their two-game deficit to defeat Lehigh in a five-game match.

The tournament MVP was freshman Erin Longinotti with 37 kills, 24 digs, 5 service aces and a hitting percentage of .248 over the course of three matches.

The Burlingame, Calif., native earned back-to-back kills in the second game of the match. Her crucial kill in the third game put the Lions up 20-14 and forced Lehigh to call a timeout.

Longinotti was joined by classmate Megan Gaughn on the all-tournament team, while teammate Sarah Thompson earned all-tournament honors.
