Penn seems to have acquired a vigilante environmental group.

In the past few weeks, stickers appeared on the toilet paper caddies in Huntsman Hall bathrooms requesting that students avoid taking an extra sheet of toilet paper.

The stickers read, "Green Policy in Effect: Do you really need that extra sheet?" An image of an angry toilet paper roll and a crossed-out hand also appear on the sticker.

The stickers feature the logo of Penn's Green Campus Partnership, an umbrella group that houses sustainability initiatives on campus.

However, GCP said it is not responsible for the campaign.

Jennifer Rizzi, director of communications for Facilities and Real Estate Services, wrote in an e-mail that the stickers were not authorized by any Penn administrative body.

GCP was informed of the stickers when contacted by The Daily Pennsylvanian for details about their source. Rizzi said they were not created or authorized for posting by FRES or Green Campus Parternship.

The stickers were removed at the end of last week.

According to Rizzi, Wharton building administrators "stressed that no one is allowed to post signs anywhere without going through the proper channels of approval in the building."

She speculated that "students with good intentions on conservation issues" had posted the stickers without going through the proper processes.

Alec Webley, a College sophomore and chair of the Undergraduate Assembly committee on safety, sustainability and facilities said he had no idea that the stickers had even gone up.

He added, "I think it's a shame that people need a sticker to remind them to use toilet paper sensibly."

According to Personal Bidet Corporation, a company that sells bidet-style toilets, the average American uses 50 rolls of toilet paper in one year.
