PhillyCarShare has some competition.

Zipcar, another car-sharing company, began service in Philadelphia last week.

Zipcar will begin its service in Philadelphia with 110 cars located throughout University City, Center City and Queen Village.

The company says it has more than 180,000 members in 50 cities throughout the United States, Canada and London.

Other U.S. cities with the service include Washington, D.C., Chicago, Pittsburgh, Boston and San Francisco.

Zipcar vehicles in University City are located at a variety of sites, such as near 39th and Market streets and near 41st and Irving streets.

Philadelphia residents must be 21 years old to use Zipcar.

To be eligible for Zipcar, users must have a valid driver's license for at least one year, have had no more than two "incidents," which the company defines as moving violations and accidents, in the past three years and no more than one incident in the past 18 months.

Users also must have not had any alcohol violations in the past seven years.

PhillyCarShare is popular among college students because users must be only 18. The PhillyCarShare fleet has more than 400 cars.
