Penn has been ranked the 9th best university in the nation for black students by Black Enterprise magazine.
This ranking puts the University is among the top-rated non-historically black schools.
The number one school on the list was Florida A&M; University.
Black Enterprise created its rankings with the help of a team of 500 black higher-education professionals.
The magazine sought to take into account social and academic environments for black students.
"Penn has a proud history of inclusion that reaches back decades," Provost Ron Daniels said in a statement. "To have the University ranked so highly by African-American academics as an educational destination for African-American students is affirmation of our efforts to make Penn a welcoming campus for students from all backgrounds."
