Armed men accost student at 4500 Pine

A male student was stopped and searched at gunpoint by would-be robbers at 11:50 p.m. Tuesday on the 4500 block of Pine Street.

Nothing was taken, because the student was not carrying any money or valuables.

Police have not made any arrests in relation to the case.

According to police reports, the student was walking westbound on Pine Street by himself when he was approached by two other men.

The would-be robbers displayed a small, silver-colored handgun and demanded that the student give them his money.

When the student said he had no money with him, the men proceeded to rummage through his pockets.

The student was not injured.

After the men did not find any money, they fled east on Pine Street toward 44th Street.

The student called Philadelphia Police immediately after the incident.

He described the assailant with the gun as a black male in his 20s, about 5 foot 10 with a thin build, a dark complexion and slight facial hair. At the time of the incident, he wore a dark, hooded sweatshirt.

The student could not recall many details regarding the other man's physical appearance.

Because the attempted robbery occurred outside of the jurisdiction of the Penn Police, the Philadelphia Police's Southwest Detectives -- based at 55th and Pine streets -- will investigate the case.

The western boundary of Penn Police jurisdiction is 43rd Street.

Earlier this week, another male student was robbed by two males at around 11 p.m. Sunday night at the intersection of 41st and Locust streets.

Penn Police have not made any arrests in relation to that case, either.
