A Drexel University student was stabbed in an attempted robbery Thursday evening in a community garden located at 32nd and Summer streets, according to Philadelphia Police.
The student, Robert Emmett, was taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and was listed in "non-critical" condition yesterday, a HUP nurse said.
Two males, Cyrus Borum and Keith English, both 20, were arrested in connection with the crime, according to Philadelphia Police Officer Maria Ibrahim.
Borum is charged with robbery, aggravated assault, conspiracy and a weapons offense. English is charged with attempted murder and other offenses.
Detective Hagan of the Southwest Detective Unit said that the incident, which took place inPowelton Village, near the border of Drexel's campus, occurred at around 7 p.m. on Thursday. Emmett is a business administration junior at Drexel.
According to Ibrahim, the two suspects were allegedly attempting to rob Emmett. When he fought back, one of the suspects stabbed him and then fled. Witnesses at the scene were able to "fight [one of the suspects] off and able to take him down," she said. Police later apprehended both Borum and English.
Borum listed an address on Cobbs Creek Parkway. Police said English was a soldier stationed in Germany who was home on leave.
Drexel's Department of Public Safety would not release any information regarding the incident, and the school's University Relations officials could not be reached for comment last night.
