The Penn Jersey Window Cleaning employee accused of indecently assaulting a graduate student in her dormitory room last month has now been charged with attempted rape in connection with the incident.
In addition, the employee's bail was increased from $7,500 to $15,000. As a result, he is currently in jail awaiting a hearing.
Marshall Thompson, now 30, was arrested on Aug. 27 after allegedly entering a female graduate student's room in Hamilton College House. While Thompson, who was employed by subcontractor Penn Jersey Window Cleaning, was allowed to be in the dormitory, his access was limited to the lobby floor. He was not permitted on upper floors where the assault allegedly took place.
"Clearly we are grateful that the judge and the district attorney have taken this case seriously and saw fit to add the appropriate charge and raise the bail accordingly," Vice President of Public Safety Maureen Rush said.
The changes were made after Assistant District Attorney Richard DeSipio requested the charge be added, along with an increase in bail to $50,000.
Though the bail was only doubled, the charge was successfully added. According to the District Attorney's Office, Thompson had already been charged with burglary, criminal trespass, unlawful restraint, indecent assault, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person and false imprisonment.
"Thankfully, due to the increase in his bail, he is still incarcerated," Rush said.
Though a preliminary hearing was scheduled for Tuesday morning, it did not go forward. Before the hearing, DeSipio requested to amend the charges through an oral motion. After the charge was added, a continuance was granted by Municipal Court Judge Felice Stack at DeSipio's request.
As a result, the preliminary hearing was rescheduled for Nov. 13.
The Public Defender's Office, which is representing Thompson, could not be reached for comment.
