Ashley Halter will join Penn women's soccer team as the assistant coach this year.

Halter will work alongside Head Coach Darren Ambrose and will help with the recruitment process, organize practice sessions and coordinate travel arrangements for the team. She will be responsible for administrative duties as well.

However, this is not the first time Halter has worked with Ambrose.

Ambrose actually coached Halter, along with former Penn Head Coach Patrick Baker, when she played soccer for Florida State University. Halter played on the team for four years as a right defense player.

For Halter's senior year, the Lady Seminoles were ranked among the top 20 and even advanced to the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA Tournament.

While Halter is here at Penn she will continue to work on the Master Degree program thatshe started at the University of Tennessee.

At Tennessee Halter was a graduate assistant for the Lady Volunteer soccer team. Halter assisted with the recruiting process there as well. And she also recorded the statistical information of the Lady Vol's games and practices, putting her Bachelor's degree in Business management to use.

More importantly for the team Halter helped the Lady Vol's experience their best season in the history of the program. The team was ranked in the top-25 throughout the 2001 season and for the first time they made their way to the NCAA tournament.

As for herself, Halter was a four year NSCAA Academic All-American.

Halter was a member of four honor societies -- including Phi Beta Kappa -- and received academic All-ACC honors for each of her four years at FSU.

The Golden Torch Award was given to Halter as well for achieving the highest GPA among all the female athletes on campus during the 1997-8 academic year.
