While the University was on recess, the women's fencing team spent part of its spring break dominating the field at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic South Regional Championship in Madison, NJ. At the end of the day on Saturday, March 10, the Penn women's fencing team emerged with four individual bids to the NCAA Championships, which will be held at Drew University this Thursday through Sunday. The Quakers will send foilists Lauren Staudinger and Emanuelle Humblet, eppeist Kimberly Linton and sabreist Mindy Nguyen to the next round of competition. The foil squad fared impressively well, with Staudinger capturing third and Humblet taking fourth in a field of 24. Linton, in grand form, was fifth in the eppes and sabreist Nguyen battled her way to seventh place to lengthen her last season as a Penn fencer. Eppeists Rebecca Richman and Elizabeth Kriedman had strong performances, finishing 11th and 16th while foilists Stacy Wertleib and Kate Zimmerly took 11th and 19th place. With a great showing in the Regionals, Penn will be a team to watch out for at the Championships this weekend.
