Fry tapped for Franklin and Marshall presidency

Executive Vice President John Fry will leave his current position at the end of June to become the new president of Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster, Pa, trustees of that college announced this afternoon.

Fry leaves Penn after eight years as the University's chief business officer. In that capacity, he was responsible for Penn's finances and investments, as well as community initiatives, retail and property development, public safety, human resources and external enterprises.

Fry came to Penn in 1995 after serving as a partner with the management consultanting firm of Coopers and Lybrand. Much of his tenure here has been spent building and developing the University City District, an organization devoted to the advancement of the West Philadelphia community. Among his other accomplishments are the revitalization of the 40th Street corrdior, the development of P2B - a Penn-owned technology incubator - and the attraction of retail enterprises including Sansom Common and The Freshgrocer.

University President Judith Rodin said that she has not yet begun the search process for Fry's replacement, but will ultimately consider candidates both within and outside the University.
