Even more awards for women's soccer

The Penn women's soccer team just does not stop.

Although the season ended on Nov. 16 with a 2-0 loss to Villanova in the first round of the NCAA College Cup, since then members of the Quakers have received a truckload of awards and honors.

After nabbing several all-Ivy League awards as named by the Ancient Eight coaches, two all-Mid Atlantic Region awards, and one second team all-American -- stellar freshman forward Katy Cross -- one would think the Quakers would have been finished with their cavalcade of trophies and certificates.

The Quakers took several all-Mid Atlantic Region awards in last week's voting -- a first team nod for Cross, a third team mention for defender Heather Issing, and all-freshman bids for Cross and Rachelle Snyder -- as well as runner-up Coach of the Year for Darren Ambrose.

Yesterday, Soccerbuzz.com released its national awards, and, not surprisingly, two Quakers made the all-freshman teams.

Cross -- who led the Quakers with a Penn-record 34 points this season -- was named to the first team, while Snyder --ÿwho netted 23 points this season, third all-time -- received an honorable mention bid.

The Quakers finished 13-2-3 this season, their best finish ever, and won their first ever Ivy League title.

Clark selected as Ivy Player of the Week

For the second time this season, Penn sophomore Jewel Clark was selected as the Ivy League Player of the Week.

The 5-foot-10 guard recorded a pair of double-doubles to lead Penn to a split of two league games against Dartmouth and Harvard this weekend.

After struggling in the Quakers opening Ivy contest against Princeton two weeks ago, Clark did more than atone in Penn's second Ancient Eight matchup.

Shredding the Big Green defense, Clark scored 24 points on 9-for-15 shooting and grabbed 11 rebounds to carry Penn to a 76-64 victory on Friday. Not to be outdone on the defensive end, she also picked up five steals.

The next night against Harvard was an equally stellar showing for Clark.

With the rest of the Quakers starters struggling, Clark again ripped the nets at the Palestra -- improving upon her performance from the previous night. She netted 25 points and snatched 14 rebounds in the Penn loss.

Once again a defensive dynamo, the Red and Blue star nabbed six steals against the Crimson.

Clark currently leads the Ivies in rebounding (9.8 pg) and steals (2.38 pg) and ranks fourth in scoring, averaging 16.7 points in three Ancient Eight contests.
