The two men who allegedly robbed a Houston Hall employee at gunpoint Sunday night are still on the loose as University Police detectives continue their investigation.
Two detectives have been assigned to handle the case, but their investigation has been complicated by the fact that no witnesses have surfaced.
Deputy Chief of Investigations William Danks said that no other employees or customers were in the vicinity while the robbery was taking place.
"No one saw them come or go, no one saw anything that might be connected to a robbery," Danks said. "There's no reason to believe that a car was used [to flee] either because no one reported seeing a car double parked, or an unusual car outside."
"No one saw any of that sort of stuff, but we're still talking to folks and canvassing the area," he added.
The robbery occurred a few minutes before 8:30 p.m. on Sunday night, inside Houston Market -- the food court located on the basement level of Houston Hall at 3417 Spruce St.
Houston Market, a popular student spot, is open for business until 9 p.m. on Sunday, but staff there would not estimate how many people usually dine there on a typical Sunday night.
Doors to Houston Hall remain unlocked until midnight, and no form of identification is needed to enter the building.
As a manager at Houston Market was on his way out to the main area of the food court, he was reportedly forced into a back office by two African-American males. He did not see how the two men entered the building.
"He was in there by himself, and he was forced into the cash office at gunpoint by the two black males who tied him up with duct tape after he was made to open the safe. Both men had automatic handguns, according to him," Danks said.
University Police declined to release the manager's name.
After the office's safe was opened, the robbers tied the manager up with duct tape and forced him to lay on the floor. The two men got away with about $9,000, not $8,000, as was previously reported by police.
The manager described his first alleged attacker as an African-American male with a light complexion, between 5'9" and 5'10", and weighing 165 to 170 lbs. He described him as wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, dark pants, black gloves and brown boots.
The second robber was described as being almost identical, except that he had a darker complexion and short black hair.
Both suspected robbers were also reportedly wearing masks similar to the ones used in the movie Scream -- long, white ghostly faces on a black background, that fully cover the face.
The manager "says he was able to see their complexions and hair styles as they bent over the safe to take money," Danks said.
Police would not comment on whether they suspect the alleged robbery to be an inside job.
