Dracula's Ball
Shampoo
Willow Street between Seventh and Eighth
(215) 922-7500
As one Shampoo devotee proudly states on the online message board, "When I get back from school on T-giving you'll see me up on the box rippin' it up." Ohhhhhhh yeah. Way to be, tiger. As you can tell, Shampoo is the place where the beautiful people go to be with their own kind. It's your chance to bump and grind amidst the grease, hairspray and transvestites that symbolize only one thing--a good night of clubbin'. Sure, that chick might have a dick, but just pop back some more E and your junk won't know the difference. Now we know you're hurtin' to get on that box, but just wait, there's more. This isn't just any Wednesday at Shampoo--this is the annual Dracula's Ball. So now Sid can't just be Nancy like he is every Wednesday night--he has to break out his Richard Simmons jumpsuit and suddenly things get that much more interesting. Next thing you know you'll find yourself sweatin' to the oldies with Richie, Lucifer and RuPaul and you'll think to yourself, "Thanks, Street."
Type O Negative w/Dust to Dust and Carfax Abbey
Trocadero Theatre
1003 Arch Street
7 p.m. doors, $25
(215) 922-LIVE
Mmmm... Bloooood... Yummy. Type O Negative chose a suitable name for its bloodthirsty goth metal style. A cheery God-fearing and worshipping evening is definitely in store for the Troc's Halloween lineup. Be sure to wear your pious habit or robe because holding up a wooden cross may not be enough to ward off the nightcrawlers in attendance.
Good Country People
Shubin Theatre
Call for Details
(215) 592-0119
We at Street would like to proudly pronounce that we believe all country people to be good. Yes, the simple folk really know how to live life. Is there anything better than sitting on the front porch with a steaming plate of grits and a cup of joe on a blustery day in the heartland of America? No, no there isn't. And that's why this play will change your life. It's time that we get back to basics and understand what is really important in the world. That way, the people who kept inbreeding and poor dental hygiene alive and brought us national treasures like Tammy Fay Baker will finally get the recognition they deserve.
The Roots
Electric Factory
Seventh and Willow streets
8:30 p.m., $25/ $28 door
(215) 627-1332
What? You were too drunk/high/getting laid/other to even remember that the Roots played at Fling a couple of years ago? That's unbelievable! Well, we're lucky that these hip-hop masters are Philly natives 'cause that gives us a chance to repent our sins and experience their beatboxing, headbobbing flavor. Awww yeah.
Mahlerthon III
Mugmon Soundstage
18+; All Day
(215) 417-8094
If for some unfortunate reason you missed the Mahler performance at the Philadelphia Orchestra over the weekend, the Symphony No. 4 will be played here eight times consecutively. Mahlerites rejoice.
