Weekend Update: W.Hoops falls to Texas Tech

LUBBOCK, TX. - After three months and 21 straight games without a loss, the Penn women's basketball team came crashing down to Earth Friday night - hard. Texas Tech stomped the visiting Quakers, 100-57, to advance to the second round of the NCAA tournament. The Lady Raiders on Sunday face Virginia Tech, who soundly defeated Denver, 77-57, in the opener of last night's doubleheader. The Texas Tech victory sent the Quakers home early in their first-ever NCAA tournament. Penn hung tough through most of the first half with the powerful Lady Raiders, but a 30-5 Texas Tech second-half run sealed the Quakers' fate. For the Lady Raiders, five players scored in double digits, while twelve women put points on the board. The Quakers were led by sophomore Jennifer Jones, who tallied a career high 19 points, while pulling down eight rebounds. Penn senior Diana Caramanico notched 15 points to break the Big 5 scoring record. Fellow senior Erin Ladley sat on the bench for a good portion of the game, hampered by foul trouble. The guard scored five points and committed six turnovers in her final collegiate game. "This is a tough time for us right now," Penn coach Kelly Greenberg said. "Our five seniors finishing up - we didn't play as well as we thought we could have. "It's a tough way to finish, but I think it's really important that our girls to keep their heads high."
