Robbery * March 7 -- A female University graduate student reported that at about 7:45 p.m., a man attempted to take her bicycle from her, cut one of her hands and fled west with the bike on the 4400 block of Osage Avenue. He then fled north on 45th Street and was last seen fleeing westbound on Pine Street. The woman refused medical treatment. Her alleged attacker was described as an African-American male in his 30s, of medium build, weighing 180 pounds. He had brown eyes and black bushy hair and was wearing a black cap and a gray hooded sweatshirt. No value for the bike was given.
Theft * March 7 -- A male University student reported that he left his bicycle secured to a rack outside of the David Rittenhouse Laboratories, located at 209 S. 33rd Street, at 4:10 p.m. When he returned at 5:50 p.m., the bike, valued at $400, was missing.
* March 7 -- A female University student reported that at about 4:15 p.m., she saw a man going through her purse in Van Pelt Library, located at 3420 Walnut Street. When she approached the man, he attempted to flee, but was caught. Donald Rice, 28, was arrested in connection with the theft. Police said Rice has faced previous arrests for similar offenses.
* March 5 -- A male University student reported that he parked his vehicle at 6 p.m. in the garage located at 38th and Spruce streets. When he returned to the vehicle at 8 p.m., a window was broken and $800 worth of stereo equipment had been taken from the vehicle.
* March 5 -- A woman whose affiliation with the University was unknown reported that between March 2 and March 5, a window air conditioning unit valued at $150 was removed from her residence on the 4200 block of Spruce Street. There was no sign of forced entry.
