Ten athletes from each school in the Ivy League were named to the fall Academic All-Ivy team. There were five men and five women for each school. The athletes honored from Penn play sports ranging from football to field hockey, and major in fields from fine arts to international relations. "I'm really excited," said Penn women's soccer player Kelli Toland, who led the Quakers in scoring this season and helped lead the Quakers to their first-ever NCAA Tournament berth. "It's really good for me because first semester freshman year I struggled a bit, and I've done better and better each semester, so it means a lot to be recognized as a soccer player and a student." Notable honorees from around the league include Brown wide receiver Stephen Campbell, a first team All-Ivy selection for the '99 Ivy co-champs, and Yale field hockey star Amanda Walton, one of just eight sophomores honored. Perhaps the brightest star, though, was Penn senior defensive lineman Mike Germino, who spent the fall terrorizing quarterbacks as a first team All-Ivy football player, and who was also named a GTE Academic All-American. --Jesse Spector
