SAM pizza contest nets $400 for UNICEF Sixteen five-person teams comprised of members from 10 fraternities, the Sigma Delta Tau sorority and non-Greeks paid an entry fee of $25 each and raised a total of $400 for the United Nations Children's Fun. "We wanted to just do something good for the community and get our name out," said SAM Prior Jared Hendricks, a Wharton sophomore. "We were excited to have another philanthropy event that involved the whole campus, Greeks and non-Greeks." The goal of each team was to finish its pizza in the shortest amount of time. The winner -- the Psi Upsilon fraternity -- will receive a free pizza party from Papa John's. According to College senior Brian Chin, a marketing representative for Papa John's, the pizza establishment -- which provided the pizza for free -- saw the event as an opportunity to benefit a charity and to build a long-term relationship with the Greek community. "Students on campus are our customers, and because Papa John's values its customers, it's going to have to build a relationship [with them]," Chin said. "The way the whole event went off was great from our perspective." SAM Philanthropy Co-Chairperson David Schlosberg, a Wharton sophomore, said the contest drew together more than 200 people. "It's rare that a lot of fraternities can get together and do something," he said. "A lot of students were out there from all years and all areas of the Penn community." -- Dana Klinek
