To the Editor: The local crime problem has its roots in a long-term social problem, which involves many factors, including both the Penn community and the surrounding neighborhoods. Suggestions such as expanded Penn Transit service and more centrally concentrated night classes, while seeming like a logical solution to the crime problem, in fact backfire by contributing to the greater social problems by further separating the University from the surrounding community. While I do not fault anyone for their interest in self-preservation, I do fault those, especially those as intelligent as the Penn undergraduate student body, for their ignorance. If the majority of Penn undergraduates truly believe that these measures will remedy the crime problem, then I think that the University must do a better job in educating its students in the realities of urban life.

Storming Franklin Field
To the Editor: The day I stormed Franklin Field and helped thousands of my fellow Quakers faithful tear down the goal post and toss it into the Schuylkill River will always be one of my fondest memories. Never before have I witnessed such enthusiasm and pride for our school. We even displayed a little Penn ingenuity by circumventing the security guards and taking down the east uprights instead of the ones at the west end of the field. Saturday proved that this tradition should remain forever. I think everyone will agree that this is what college is all about, and it made me damn proud to be a Quaker.

To the Editor: I am writing to congratulate the football team on the victory over Harvard and capture of the Ivy League Championship. We are very proud of you guys and look forward to your continued success. The administration, no doubt, could have done more to help students celebrate the victory of our team. Peaceful coordination of the crowd on the field, installment of cheaper goal posts for the game, control of car traffic on the way to the river and an emergency medical aid station would have all been welcome. Capture of the Ivy League Championship is what all the fans, players, coaches and indeed the whole Penn community longs and waits for. The celebration of this important victory is also our school’s tradition; let us make the most out of it!
