CAMPUS BRIEFS: Friday, October 30, 1998

TEP under investigation by national organization The party in question was held by TEP brothers who do not live in the fraternity house and their housemates on the weekend of September 11, before fraternities could officially throw parties in their houses. Students claimed that party sponsors charged a door fee. Metzl said he had no knowledge of charging at the party, but he emphasized the party was not a TEP-sponsored event and therefore did not have to adhere to any InterFraternity Council regulations forbidding door fees. State law also prohibits charging at such a party. Metzl, a College junior, said the issue is whether or not "off-campus parties need to be run as if they were fraternity parties." Despite the investigation, George Hasenberg, who head the fraternity's national organization, said he believes that the fraternity is "in complete compliance" with all national and University regulations. Penn's Office of Fraternity and Sorority Affairs is not involved with the TEP inquiry, OFSA Director Scott Reikofski said. -- Catherine Lucey
