Counterparts perform at Carnegie Hall But members of the group were still thrilled -- not only at the chance to perform in historic Carnegie Hall, but also by the fact that approximately 300 University students journeyed to New York to see the coed jazz and pop a cappella group perform. "It was absolutely a pleasure to be there," Counterparts President and College senior Thais Stiklorius said. "We were very excited to get that far and sing in such a wonderful place where people like Ella Fitzgerald have sung before." She added that although the group was "disappointed" at the loss, "it was exhilarating to look out at so many of our fans." And Stiklorius noted that "it's unprecedented that that many people from Penn came to support a performing arts group." The group offered free bus rides to University students interested in attending the concert and arranged a trip for students to a popular New York club after the competition. Counterparts sang three songs in the competition -- "One of Us," "Route 66" and "Damn, I Wish I Was Your Lover." Stanford University's Talisman a cappella group won first place overall at the Carnegie Hall championship, which was sponsored by Smokin' Fish Records and the Contemporary A Cappella Society of America. The runner-up award went to the University of Illinois' No Strings Attached. -- Ian Rosenblum ResNet installation to affect Quad move-in Installing ResNet into the Quadrangle during the summer will likely extend into late August and will force the University to shorten early move-in, according to Nancy McCue, the associate director of Housing and Residential Life. The project "will severely limit the number of students allowed to move in before August 30," she said. Preliminary work for the installation of ResNet into the Quad has already begun, with the construction of electrical panels in the basement. Full-scale construction will begin May 12, and plans predict completion by the start of school. As in past years, resident advisors and transfer students living in the Quad will be allowed to move in before freshmen. But freshmen arriving on campus early will not be able to move their belongings into their dorm rooms. Although Residence Life has no current plans for how to accommodate the large number of students moving in August 30, McCue said she hopes to have more carts available for students, along with more traffic control. -- Becca Iverson
