The QuakerCard can now be used at Lee's Hoagie House and Fiesta Pizza, Jr., owners at both restaurants confirmed. The QuakerCard, sponsored by University Student Services, Inc., enables students to put money into an account and use the fund as a debit card at area restaurants. The card includes a picture and owner signature for safety reasons. Both restaurants began accepting the debit card this weekend in an effort to increase business and to convert the University community into a cashless society, owners said. "I think we're on our way to a cashless society, and this is a great step," said Lee's owner Jan Zucker. "It [the QuakerCard] works for us, and it works for the students." Zucker and QuakerCard co-founder Matthew Levenson, a Wharton senior, said the card is even more advantageous given the recent string of armed robberies near campus, because students who use it do not need to carry cash. Levenson said the new partnerships will make the card a better deal for students. "We want to see what student needs are, and it's our job to fulfill those needs," Levenson said. "Location and delivery are key concepts for both of these restaurants. Students can also use their cards for delivery, including a tip. "At two o'clock in the morning, in the middle of winter, most kids probably don't want to have to run out to get cash," he added. "The QuakerCard solves that problem."
