University shifts control of WXPN-FMUniversity shifts control of WXPN-FM Oversight of University-owned radio station WXPN-FM will move from the Office of the Vice Provost for University Life to the Office of the Secretary on July 1. Conn said the station was originally placed under the VPUL's oversight because it was a student activity, but it is now considered a professional media organization. Last week, a search committee was formed to look for a new general manager for WXPN. Former GM Mark Fuerst retired from the station in early January. The committee will hold its first meeting next week and to begin selecting a new GM for the station by July 1, Conn said. Oliver Williams, a political science professor emeritus, will chair the committee. He is joined by committee members including University spokesperson Barbara Beck, Steve Steinberg, assistant to the president, and University Trustee Anthony Minisi. – Ben Hammer Spring Fling concert tickets on sale today Tickets for the Spring Fling concert featuring the Violent Femmes, the Skatalites, Pharcyde and moe. will be on sale beginning today at the Annenberg Box Office. College senior Mike Parker, co-director of concerts for the Social Planning and Events Committee, said students can purchase tickets either in person or by phone by calling 898-6791. "They'll be available next week on Locust Walk," he added. "And anyone who wants to charge by phone can do it through Ticketmaster." One change from last year is that the $15 student price is available for all students -- not just those who attend the University. Parker explained that SPEC implemented the change so that students whose friends come to Penn for the show do not have to pay the $20 general public rate. In another change from last year, the concert will be held on the Friday night of Fling, instead of Saturday. "More people's friends from other schools will be able to come," Parker explained. The concert will be held on Hill Field, and doors will open at 6 p.m. The field's can hold 8,000 people. – Doree Shafrir English UAB holds forum today The English Undergraduate Advisory Board will sponsor its third annual University-wide Forum on Undergraduate Life today from 4 to 6 p.m. The discussion will be held in the Penniman Library on the second floor of Bennett Hall.
