M. Track travels to Ithaca for final dual meet

This weekend, the Penn men's track team will compete in its last meet before the three most important events of the outdoor season. The Quakers will face Cornell tomorrow at 11:30 a.m. at Ithaca College in their only dual meet of the season. While the Red and Blue is expected to win the meet easily, it will be a gauge of whether it is prepared for the Penn Relays, the Heptagonal Championships and the IC4A Championships, which are the next three meets. "This is the last meet to fine-tune things for the Penn Relays," Penn assistant coach Matt Levine said. "It will give guys a chance to make sure they're healthy, so nobody's going to run a lot of events." Most of the Quakers will compete in less events than usual in order to rest up for Relays. "It shouldn't be a close meet," Penn junior Louis Juliano said. "We better go up there and blow them out. We're fired up because we have to reprove to ourselves that we are Heps champions." But the final score of tomorrow's meet means less to Quakers than the practice it will give them. "We're beginning the peaking process now," Penn assistant coach Nathan Taylor said. "We're looking ahead to Penn Relays and Heps." The team has lightened its workouts in the last week to avoid injuries heading into the postseason. "Everyone's got to be 100 percent for Heps," Penn sophomore Corey Shannon said. Shannon, a javelin thrower, added that he will only be taking one or two throws this weekend to recover from a lower back injury. The Quakers are hoping for good weather and solid performances this weekend as they begin the final stretch towards another Heps crown.
