The week in Ivy athletics

Compiled by DP Sports Staff Field Hockey -- The Quakers, who have won two straight Ivy titles, will relinquish the championship to Princeton. The Tigers are currently undefeated in the Ivy League heading into tomorrow's finale against Penn. Princeton looks to become only the third team to finish undefeated and untied. The 1993 Penn squad was the second team to accomplish that feat. Brown earned its first Ivy win of the season this weekend, a 2-1 upset of Cornell. Emily Bottis scored the winning goal and was named Ivy player of the week. Men's Soccer -- Brown is a win or tie away from clinching outright the Ivy League championship and the automatic berth to the NCAA tournament. The Bears are ranked 19th in the Soccer America poll and 12th in the ISAA poll. Second-place Harvard is Brown's final opponent. If Harvard wins, and Columbia wins, the Crimson tie Brown for first place. Harvard would receive the automatic bid on a tie-breaker. If Harvard and Columbia win, all three teams tie for first and the Lions receive the automatic berth. Women's Soccer -- Brown and Harvard play Saturday for the Ivy League championship. The Bears are 6-0-0 in Ivy play, while Harvard is 5-0-1. Brown is ranked 16th in Soccer America and 12th in the ISAA poll, while Dartmouth is 17th and 15th, respectively. Harvard's Sara Noonan and Brown's Emily Benson shared the Ivy Player of the Week award. Noonan had the game-winner against Dartmouth, while Benson headed in the game-winning goal against Cornell. Penn concludes its Ivy season at Princeton Saturday. Volleyball -- Princeton clinched the No. 1 seed for the Ivy championship tournament to be held Nov. 11-13 at Princeton's Dillon Gymnasium. The Tigers finished the regular season 7-0. Penn is the second seed, boasting a 6-1 league mark. Yale (5-2) is seeded third. Stephanie Edwards was the Ivy Player of the Week with 25 kills and 15 kills in wins over Columbia, 3-0, and Cornell, 3-1. Cross Country -- Dartmouth swept the team titles at the Heptagonal Championships Friday. The Big Green men, led by first-place finisher Sam Wilbur, won the men's race by 70 points. The women won by five points over second-place Brown.
