The University Board of Trustees will be on campus today and tomorrow for their annual winter meetings. Despite arctic weather which has closed the University and crippled transportation on the East Coast, most Trustees arrived in Philadelphia yesterday, and are expected to attend today's meetings, University Secretary Barbara Stevens said. "We're moving full steam ahead," Stevens said. The Trustees are expected to address topics ranging from the elimination of the American Civilization and Regional Science Departments to the budget for the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. The Budget and Finance Committee will meet from 10:45 to 11:45 a.m. today in the Faculty Club Tea Room to discuss the fiscal health of the University and HUP's capital budget for fiscal year 1994. The University Responsibility Committee will then meet from 1:45 to 3:15 p.m. in the Woody Room of Van Pelt Library. Finally, the Academic Policy Committee will meet from 3:30 to 5 p.m. in the Gates Room of Van Pelt Library to discuss the elimination of the American Civilization and Regional Science Departments. These cuts were recommended by School of Arts and Sciences Dean Rosemary Stevens and were recently endorsed by Interim President Claire Fagin and Interim Provost Marvin Lazerson. The Stated Meeting of the Trustees will be held in Hoover Lounge, Vance Hall, from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. They are expected to approve the promotion of University Budget Director Stephen Golding to vice president for finance. They will also vote on the SAS department cuts and the amended HUP budget. All of the Trustees meetings mentioned above are open to the public.
