After the man went into cardiac arrest, the driver called University Police, who found the man with a sporadic pulse inside the bus at 33rd and Walnut streets, in front of the David Rittenhouse Laboratories. Officers called Philadelphia Fire Rescue and began to perform CPR on the 64-year-old man. When rescuers arrived, they took the man to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania where he died. Police are not releasing the man's identity. – Gregory Montanaro Check case hits snag in court The government's case against two men charged with distributing counterfeit Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and University checks suffered a minor setback yesterday when one of the men did not plead guilty as expected, U.S. Attorney Robert Zauzmer said. In a hearing before U.S. District Judge James Kelly, Demetrius White was supposed to plead guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute counterfeit checks as part of a government plea bargain. But, when he arrived for the hearing yesterday morning, White surprised Zauzmer and his attorney David McGlaughlin by refusing to plead guilty and asking for more time to consider his options. Kelly postponed the hearing until later this week. -Jeremy Kahn SPEC elects new board The Social Planning and Events Committee elected College junior Lisette Monge president at a meeting last night. "I really see SPEC having a lot of potential to [affect] the social life at Penn," Monge said. "We do really exciting things. We want to get the committees to grow in membership." Engineering junior Ha Nguyen and College juniors Rick Gresh and Josh Adler were elected vice president, treasurer and secretary, respectively. "I'm very excited, I think they'll work very well together," said College senior and outgoing SPEC president Jennifer Raymond. – Heidi Gleit Board sponsors tutoring center The Wharton Undergraduate Dean's advisory board will sponsor a special tutoring center for students who need extra assistance in their introductory business courses, such as economics, accounting, statistics and finance.
