UCHC Executive Director David Lynn, UCHC board members and student volunteers, among them the brothers of the Alpha Phi Omega fraternity, were on hand to celebrate the event. UCHC started as a meal program in 1984 in response to Stanley Biddle's death. Biddle, who was homeless, froze to death sleeping on one of the benches at the University. Now UCHC is the biggest meal program in Philadelphia as well as a hub for the homeless to find medical and legal assistance, exchange information on possible employment, and receive support – whether nutritionally, emotionally or mentally. And this winter, UCHC is starting a Cold Watch to take people off the benches and into a warm place at night. –Thieu-Anh Dang
