One of our observers was leaving a class at the David Rittenhouse Laboratories. He hoped to pick up an Escort Service shuttle outside the building, which is an official transit stop. Unfortunately, the first A-route shuttle to pass by was already filled. The student was instead forced to wait for the next shuttle. The harried Escort driver of the next A-route shuttle told everyone boarding the van that they should not complain to him. Curiously, no one getting on the van had criticized the service -- but nevertheless, the driver provided two phone numbers for people to call with complaints. After the van arrived at the transit stop outside the food court at 3401 Walnut Street, it also became full and could no longer accept passengers. At this point, at least two A-route vans in a row were full. Judging by the number of people waiting at other transit stops, it was still getting worse. In the vans, Escort drivers could be heard frantically talking over their C.B. radios, demanding that more vans be sent out. Then the storm broke. Hopefully, no one got soaked while waiting at a transit stop for an Escort van. But we suspect our observer was one of the lucky ones.
