Clang, clang, clang went the trolleys, Ding, ding, ding go the bells... Residents of High Rise South may not be hearing many trolley cars these days, but they're certainly hearing bells. Fire alarm bells, that is. Students said there have been four or five false fire alarms within the last week and a half. And they're not happy about it. Some students last night complained about the repeated fire alarms, calling them annoying and excessive. "They've been a real pain," College sophomore Alison Cote said. "They're unbearable," Engineering senior Charles Moore said. "I know that South has had a lot of drills in the past, because I've lived here the past three years, but they're far too frequent [now]." While fire codes mandate that all students vacate the buildings when the fire alarm rings, many students said they do not even react to the alarms when they go off anymore. "We've become so anaesthetized that no one bothers to respond," College sophomore Matt Selheimer said. "We're immune to it by now, and last time, I didn't see anyone downstairs." And College sophomore Noah Laracy also said most people do not leave their rooms anymore, but added that it "is kind of bad if it was a real fire." "It's ridiculous," Laracy said. "Even though you know it's not a real one, you think, 'What if it was a real one?' " 'We've become so anaesthetized that no one bothers to respond. We're immune to it by now, and last time, I didn't see anyone downstairs.' Matt Selheimer College sophomore
