While crossing the Locust Walk footbridge over 38th Street alone Sunday night, two students were attacked in separate incidents only minutes apart from each other by three men, according to University Police Lieutenant Susan Holmes. Both incidents, occuring at approximately 1 a.m. involved male University students. The first victim, a 4th year student, suffered arm irritations and a "sore face," Holmes said. She said he refused hospitalization. The second was thrown from his bicycle to the ground and was later admitted to an area hospital. No arrests have been made in connection with the two assaults. In a separate incident, University Escort Service was involved in an accident with a parked car, Holmes said. This is the second Escort collsion with a standing vehicle reported this month. No one was injured in the accident, which was on the 3400 block of Spruce Street, Holmes said. Assistant Director of Transportation and Parking Steven Carey said that it was a minor incident, in which there was little damage to the parked car, and none to the van. "It was a minor fender bender," Carey said. "It was a different driver [from a similar incident earlier this month] who was put on probation." In unrelated incidents, two muggings took place on 46th Street. In both instances, cash was taken from graduate students walking in the area. The first of these robberies occurred at approximately 11 p.m. on Saturday. Two students, a male and a female, were the victims when they were held at gunpoint on the 1000 block of 46th street. A total of $80 was taken from the two of them. Nearby, a male student was walking in the vicinity of 46th and Spruce streets at nearly 2 a.m. Monday morning when a male armed with a knife approached and assaulted him from behind. The thief escaped, after taking $60 in cash and a check for $120. A sleeping resident of the Sigma Nu fraternity house was robbed early Saturday morning when an intruder entered the Walnut Street house. Holmes said the thief is alleged to have stolen a clock radio, two telephones, and a wallet after entering the home via the fire escape. No arrests have been made. At gunpoint, a campus Baskin Robbins ice cream store was robbed of approximately $100 early Tuesday evening when a man entered the 3925 Walnut Street establishment and demanded money. The clerk gave the thief the money, and then proceeded to chase him to 40th and Sansom streets, where the clerk was struck by the gun, which the clerk later reported appeared to be fake. The suspect escaped. Last Wednesday, Bicycle Express fell victim to the second attempted robbery in a month, Holmes said. But the clerk on duty was prepared, locking the thief in the store, at 226 S. 40th Street, until University Police arrived to arrest the man. 11 Pairs of socks, valued at $78, were stolen from the Urban Outfitters store at 4040 Locust Street Wednesday afternoon, Holmes said. The suspect was arrested after he threw away the bag of socks at the corner of Locust and Preston streets.
